Still Alive.....

This is just to tell myself more than anyone else that i am still alive. It has really been a long year...very long indeed ..will hopefully have something to write about once momentum picks up..I was at quantum rest all through..it's time to move again...a lonely tusker getting up to tread the jungle again,I like the threats and the greens though!

An epistle of sublime talent....

If they answer not to thy call walk alone,If they are afraid and cower mutely facing the wall,

O thou of evil luck,
open thy mind and speak out alone.

If they turn away, and desert you when crossing the wilderness,
O thou of evil luck,
trample the thorns under thy tread,
and along the blood-lined track travel alone.

If they do not hold up the light when the night is troubled with storm,
O thou of evil luck,
with the thunder flame of pain ignite thy own heart,
and let it burn alone.

THE MASTERPIECE:

jadi tor daak shune keu naa aashe tabe ekla chalo re,
tabe ekla chalo, ekla chalo, ekla chalo, ekala chalo re.

jadi keu kathaa naa kaya, ore ore o abhaagaa,
jadi sabaai thaake mukha phiraaye sabaai kare bhaya,
tabe paraana khule o tui mukha phute tora manera kathaa, ekalaa balo re

jadi sabaai phire jaaya, ore ore o abhaagaa,
jadi gahana pathe jaabaara kaale keu phire naa chaaya,
tabe pathera kaantaa o tui raktamaakhaa charanatale ekalaa dalo re

jadi aalo naa dhare, ore ore o abhaagaa,
jadi jhara-baadale aandhaara raate duyaara deya ghare,
tabe bajraanale aapana bukera paanjara jbaaliye niye ekalaa jbalo re.

The Last on DD ...fr the timebeing...

As some of my friends who read this(per force i pestered them to do so!) cause i am the only one who is idle not others...pointed out the major misses the posts had let me try to put in some more...as much as i can remember...

Byomkesh Bakshi our very own answer to Sherlock..how the hell did i miss it...he was the most stylish detective i hav seen..the crisp white dhoti and the kurta, with his pleasing personality(kudos to Rajat Kapoor for it) playing and bringing to life the detective created by Saratendu Bhandopadhya. Some of the episods ingrained in the mind are that of The tarantula poison, picture imperfect, and the one starring nandulaal babu. Also Ajit and buti ram(or was it with a k)the plots were fantabulous...Recently Rupa has brought out a collection of stories in english(the 1 st of its kind i suppose) Enjoyed the book just as much i used to enjoy it in the tv.

Then there was Potli baba ki,Gul Gulshan Gulfaam(Virendra Razdaan of Vidur fame) aur fir there were those which i don't remember much cause i was too small to see and understand them..like Humlog, buniya, doosra keval. But i remember Fauji and Circus srk's tryst with destiny! What else ...let me see...indradhanush,Spirit of unity concert (UNITY IN DIVERSITY) , RANGOLI,dekh bhai dekh and zaban sambhal ke(koi shindi koi parsee koi rusi to koi arbi, koi british raaj ka writer ko madrasi abhinetri, koi ...koi contractor mil ke bole ka kha ja sabke maan mein hai abhilasha milkey sheekehy Hindi bhasha....par na don't make tamasha..Pankaj Kapoor is still amazing...)..also In Conversation with Rajeev Mehrothra,tThe World This Week,Gillete World Sport special....actually there r too many i don't think i can do any justice...all of them touched indians in some way or the other....i find many people writting about these..i hav not added any thing new but still felt like writting...

THOSE WERE TRUELY BEAUTIFUL TIMES........

The magic of DoorDarshan....

There were a host of serials....

Who can forget Ramayan and Mahabharat...epics exemplar, potrayed in an even more sublime manner.Actors of not so high a caliber were immortalised.Arun Govil with his all pervading smile representing the unfaced character of Shri Ram or Nitish Bharadwaj as Lord Krishna always up to his tricks and play of words. These were the pillars of the TV entertainment era as it began to take shape. Also the title tracks of both were so popular, mellifluous music.

There were also the entire gamut of cartoons for all of us.HE-MAN...By the power of Greyskull and we saw with awe as the pusillainmous Battle cat become a ferocious companion.
Then there was Tail spin with Balu and Kit cloudwala ,also Punter with his stupid jokes and Don karnash and Sher Khan followed by Duck Tales...Uncle Scrooge(this guy was too good swimming in gold coins!!!) and of course Launchpad"Chalen Mr Mcdee yeh hamara nau so ninyanve crash hai!" Also Jungle Book with Mowgli and akudu ,pakdu, leela, chameli,ka,bageera, bhalu, sher khan and sarpanch...the Akela the call which used to symbolise the meetings oooohhooooooonnnn. The animation was so good(actually this was Japanese) and the song jungle jungle pata chala hai penned by Gulzar..all of this made a total package hard to resist...

There were also a host of little snippets by the various government initiatives like the superb and yet simple song EK CHIDIYA ANEK CHIDIYA i have almost heard it every day in my KG and Prep days, here a small boy is told about the power of unity by his sister by various examples, beautiful animation .Then the songs like Mile Sur Mera Tumhara,Baje Sargam Har Taraf se Goonje Ban Kar DESH raag also The title tracks of Chanakya and Bharat Ek Koj.
I can go on and on..but maybe some other time...i hav collected many of these cherished moments, will try to upload these so that others can relive those beautiful days too...

Something i am doing now...

Doordarshan ,the national broadcaster of india, was an amazing channel.Something all of us who grew in the 80's and early 90's will never forget. There were programmes for children which are unparalled. To recollect some of the ones i cherish...lets see:

Baingan raja:Where actors used to dress up as fruits and vegetables and Baingan or Brinjal was the king of the place. Two children who did not like eating their vegies were transported to this mystical place and they have amazing experiences which teach them about the importance of having fruits and vegetables. This was one show i hardly missed as i used to rush back from school to catch it.(that i am a big time foodie has its roots here i feel!!)

Tur rum tu:Another amazing DD creation(actually CIET tarang presents:TUR RUM TU) it was a show in which there was a strange animal which used to teach us alphabets of hindi, tell us about making little toys out of paper(our origami class)....i loved it.

Malgudi Days: The magic of RK Narayan, undiluted pleasure!
Based on the collection of short stories penned by R.K.Narayan, the serial narrated focused on the trial and tribulations of a small Indian town of Malgudi. According to R.K. Narayan, Malgudi is a town "habited by timeless characters who could be living anywhere in the world" and is located on the banks of river Sarayu and surrounded by the Mempi Hills.
The best episodes were that of "Swami and his Friends"
It revolves around a mischievous, ten-year old boy Swaminathan or Swami as he was fondly called by his friends and parents. Swami portrays the growing pangs of a boy who despises school, makes excuses and likes to roam around Malgudi with his friends. Swami's father works in a government office and his mother is a housewife. At home, Swami shares his adventures with his aged granny, who lovingly addresses him as "Chamy." Swami has two best friends, the hot headed, club swinging Mani and the cocky, brash, rich kid, Rajam.(Source wiki)

I did not want to write much as i am not capable to describe the happiness watching swami gave me,i related to his predicament of going to school!!.

There were so many more:Mr Yogi,Mohan Ghokle made his room in every Tv viewing home of developing india.13 Episodes and 13 ladies!!

Mungeri lal ke haseen sapney:The title track is wonderful, and so was mungeri!!his dreams and the laughter...

Will continue this write up later...

The initiation to history....

Let me open with something i am passionate about.....

History: Anyone who believes you can't change history has never tried to write his memoirs.
